2023-2025 Juried Artist Registry Selection

So proud to have been selected for Arkansas Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts‘s Juried Artist Registry Selection for 2023-2025.

The biennial Juried Artist Registry features work by Arkansas artists who identify as women, selected by an arts professional serving as juror. Artists’ images, artist statements and website links are featured online for a two-year period. This Registry offers a contemporary look at a range of work and serves as a public resource to connect artists, curators, and collectors, and encourages the creation, exhibition, and promotion of artwork by Arkansas women artists.

2016 Main Street Awards

Last night was a big surprise for me. We helped host an awards ceremony for our local Main Street organization, of which I am VP. Awards were given to outstanding businesses and community members. I won local Volunteer of the Year for my town. Ben also won Local Hero award.

AND THEN…

Representatives from the Arkansas Main Street state program were there to give 2 awards to our community. I kind of guessed we had won for Best Online Presence. (I created our website: Downtown Paragould this year, and Gina, our director, does an amazing job with our social media.) But, to my incredible surprise, I also won the Volunteer of the Year from the state Main Street program!

MOCA Fundraise Bracelet

360 hand-painted bracelet Hand Painted Bracelet of Downtown Paragould

The new MOCA Arkansas had a unique fundraiser to benefit the contemporary art museum that will soon be located in Paragould, hopefully downtown. They asked local artists to paint wooden bracelets to be auctioned off at a private viewing of their collection. There was also a small contest for best bracelet.

I wanted to do something that would represent Paragould and my miniature paintings, of course the downtown landscape came to mind.

Seersucker and Linen was a unique event featuring big hats, croquet, Bourbon punch and the auction of our bracelets. I have to say a lot of work went into all the bracelets features. Jim Porterfield, an artist from Jonesboro’s bracelet was a particular standout.

I was honored to win the bracelet contest and $100 – thanks MOCA!

Win An Instagram-style Painting by Mandy Maxwell

For the past 2 years, Instagram has captivated my life. To be able to look back at the details of each day is something I could have only wished for in the past. (I’ve never been able to keep up with scrapbooking.) This app makes it effortless to create something beautiful daily. But more than that, the photos of the people I’ve met through the community do so much to stir my muse. I know others love their IG photo collection just as much as me, therefore I want to give back.

These tiny 2×2 canvases are just a little bit bigger than an Instagram photo on my iPhone screen. I use very tiny brushes, like the ones used to paint miniature models, just to get the details. Each micro-painting takes from 1-5 hours or more, depending on the subject matter. I like the challenge of painting these little details! So,
